Week 7 - Computer-Controlled Machining

Group Assignment

In this week we want to design cool designs in meter scale, we had a small CNC router machine in our lab and had access to a big machine in another workshop. So we started our week by testing a small parts using our machine. such as alignment, fixturing, speeds, feeds, materials, and toolpaths for your machine

Individual assignments

I worked on designing a side table/stool that could be made of recycled plastic sheets

CAD ( Fusion 360)

I used parametric design using fusion360, draw my sketches and add dog bones to each joint

CAM ( ArtCAM)

The ArtCAM software range provides a unique CAD modelling and CNC machining software solution to a wide variety of industries. Created for artisans over engineers, our easy-to-use and customizable cnc software range has allowed us to create signs, woodworks, engravings and the freedom to design and manufacture high-quality 2D or 3D products from customers artwork faster than they ever thought possible. We used it to generate A gcode by setting the endmill dimension, feedrate, rotor speed and max depth of cut

Machining

I measured the sheet thickness, used nails to fix the plastic sheets to machine's table

Assemble Output

Problem

Measure twice, Cut once. The chair top was to thin so the legs couldn't fit correctly, I fixed this problem by using thicker sheets, please check wildcard
